"The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are." ~Jim Morrison
A statement like that begs the question, "Who are we?"
Before reading furuther, right out a quick list (mentally or physically) that answers the question of "Who are you?"
Right out everything that you believe defines you as a person and reflects who you are as an individual.
Now, I invite you to click "Read More..."
Now, I invite you to click "Read More..."
Many times we like to define who we are. We come up with many definitions, all of which reflect what we see, feel, think and believe. All of which is coming through entirely our own perspective.
When was the last time you asked God who you were and set-aside any preconceived idea or notions as to what He might say?
It is tough for us to set-aside our perspective and based all of who we are on what God says, but that is exactly what He longs for us to do. To see ourselves through His eyes, completely and without question.
So can you do it? Can you lay aside every definition you have come up that has defined who you are and let it all go at the foot of the cross?
If you are unsure what that looks like, check out this awesome list (click here) that I found that was part of a website describing how we should perceive ourselves and thus, claim our identity in Christ.
Now, do me a favor. Go ahead and print that list. Not only will that be good for the following exercise but it would be a great reminder to have every day on your bathroom mirror.
Try this exercise: Go ahead and hold up the list you made earlier about yourself. Now, hold it up beside the list I told you to print out, and compare them.
Do you see any differences? Any similarities?
How can you bring your way of thinking more into line with the list from not only the website, but from the very Word of God?
I encourage you to re-visit those two lists every day. Constantly, evaluate how your perspective is shifting or changing and what is causing it to do so.
Daily making sure that your identity is not based on who you are
but on Whose you are.
"I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me."
Galatians 2:20
P.S. Taken in this perspective, I definitely agree with the Jim Morrison quote:
"The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are." ~Jim Morrison
