What does Jesus look like?/"Speaking the truth in love"

I came across this video and wanted to share it. It is somewhat long, as the description below says, but it is well worth watching. I am excited to share this with you and to see what your response is to the video. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment area below. The description is from this website:http://amokarts.wordpress.com/2011/08/19/responding-to-controversial-art-part-2/, where I originally saw the video.

"A few days ago I posted what I thought our response should be to controversial art. This video is the story of a young pastor who lived it out. It”s a little long but watching it til the end will give you a real blessing. Please check this out and spread it around. This is a true image of what it means to speak the truth in love and the impact it can have in a world where love can be hard to find. It’s not my own work so I can ask this without hesitation or fear of self promotion… Please, please, please take this video viral.

We often talk about how to deal with people with whom we disagree. While others protested and attacked, this guy shared the Gospel and it made all the difference."

Rhonda, Look for the book, "God is for Real". It's the story of a little boy who went to heaven while he was on the operating table. The way it is written by his dad, it makes you feel that he knows what he is talking about. He said he saw Jesus and we do not have any pictures that look like the Jesus he saw. That is until they found a picture painted by a 13 (I think) year old girl who says she just paints what God tells her to paint. The book is very good and I know that you won't want to put it down once you start reading it. Check it out. Sorry, I can't come up with the boy's or dad's name, but it is a little yellow book with the little boy on the front.

Thanks for the suggestion. Apparently, I really need to read this because you are probably about the 50th person that has suggested it! haha! I will look into it!

I agree with the little boy, that most likely the pictures that we have drawn will not even be close to what Jesus really looks like. Even though this video does draw a "typical" looking Jesus in the end, I think what caught my attention was how the act of love displayed by the young Pastor to the artist helped to change the description and character displayed by the artist in his painting. The actually painting itself set-aside, the meaning coming from the original painting compared to the 2nd painting, speaks volumes. And the grace itself, shown by the Pastor, speaks even more. That's what I was hoping to share. :)

I absolutely love the Pastor's response and how he pointed out, that although they may never agree about some things, he did notice areas that did touch on aspects of truth. Truth about the corruption of the Gospel by man and how many people have played a part in destroying the truth of who Jesus really is and what the Gospel looks like. I love how he requests the artist, in a loving way, to depict an uncorrupted Jesus; allowing the true nature and character of Jesus to display, untainted by mankind.

How the Pastor reacted and held discussion with the artist, is a great example of how we all should be with those who we disagree with. In essence, "Speaking the truth in love".

Rhonda, I was wrong about the title of that little book. It is called "Heaven is for Real" by Todd Burpo with help from Lynn Vincint.
